Holistic Sound Training
April 24th-29th, 2018
with Jarrod Mayer & Melody Balczon
This course serves as a practical application for sound tools, while working with vibration as a modality for restoring well-being. A powerful combination of philosophy, meditation, and yoga, this training is the substratum for developing a deep relationship with sound. It is Nada Yoga…where we reach self-actualization through the use of sound.
The tools and wisdom of the teachings can be applied to one’s life and personal practice, while yoga teachers and/or sound/reiki practitioners can utilize this training as a powerful enhancement for their classes.
Each day will consist of teachings on a variety of sound tools as well as 2-3 sound baths, so we gain a deep experience with sound.
SOUND TOOLS WE WILL EXPLORE
Gong, Tuning Forks, Himalayan Singing Bowls, Crystal Singing Bowls, Shruti Boxes, Rattles, Feathers, and more.
With these tools we work with balancing the mind, body, and spirit connection. The balancing of the elements is paramount in understanding the imbalance within ones mind and body. We will explore a deep philosophy of sound with the integration of two to three sound baths each day.
This is module 1 of 7 and is the most comprehensive in use of sound tools. This counts towards 40 hours of Continuing Education Credits through Yoga Alliance. Students are required to log their own hours within their account with Yoga Alliance.
Modules can be taken in any order as each is complete in and of themselves. Modules 2-7 explore the realms of sound and consciousness.
- WILL WE BE PRACTICING YOGA?
Absolutely. Kundalini Yoga is a powerful ally in the transmission of sound. Along with multiple sound baths, kiryas, and mediations we will cultivate the inner self to transmit the sound.
- WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT OF THE DAY?
We will start each day with a full Kundalini Kriya and extended sound bath. One can expect about 2 sound baths per day with varying instruments. We will go in depth on the philosophy of sound and Nada Yoga. There will also be plenty of hands on time to learn and play with instruments. Lunch will be at 1:30 each day, so please plan accordingly.
- WHO CAN TAKE THIS COURSE?
This course is designed for everyone from avid sound practitioners, yoga teachers, massage therapists, reiki practitioners, and anyone else who feels sound can compliment their own personal practice. Each student will embody new techniques, meditations, and wisdom, which they can carry into their personal lives.
- DO THE MODULES NEED TO BE TAKEN IN ORDER? DO I NEED TO TAKE ALL OF THE MODULES?
No, but we do urge you take the primary module, FOUNDATIONS, first to serve as a basis for the basic techniques of varying sound healing tools if you do not already have experience using them. Generally, each module is complete in and of itself and can be taken in any order.
- ARE THERE PRE-REQUISITES FOR THIS COURSE?
No, but taking part in a few sound baths would be a good start!
- WILL I RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE FOR THIS TRAINING?
Yes. Module 1 is complete in and of itself and you will receive a certificate upon completion of all work, in class and at home. Full completion of all modules and homework will result in a certificate of completion given by Brooklyn Healing Arts.
- DOES THIS COURSE COUNT FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS (CEC’s) FOR YOGA ALLIANCE?
Yes. This course, among many things, is a concentration in Nada Yoga, the Yoga of Sound. Within the course we concentrate on self-actualization using sound as the medium. Students are required to log their own hours within their online profile with Yoga Alliance.
- I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL ABILITIES, IS THIS COURSE BENEFICIAL FOR ME?
Yes. Working with sound requires no musical abilities. We will not cover musical theories or anything that requires technical music ability. Working with sound is a cultivation of the self to transmit a pure, neutral tone placed with a clear intention.
- WILL THERE BE SOUND TOOLS TO USE/PURCHASE? CAN I BRING MY OWN?
Yes. Sound tools will be available for purchase during off curriculum time. We will go over, in depth, the variety of gongs, tuning forks, and bowls available. If you already have your own personal tools, please bring them.
