Description of Course

Light Leaders is a 27 hour Yoga certification for teachers of children ages 3 - 12 years old.
You will learn to teach young people to exercise their bodies, control their breath, and relax.

Join us Friday, Saturday & Sunday March 5 - 7, 2010 9 am - 5 pm

Mission:

We uncover the exciting possibilities of Yoga on fun and educational journeys into our bodies and hearts. Guided by their imaginations, breath, and postures, Yoga students learn new vocabulary, develop motor and movement skills, and understand balance and relaxation through meditation and breathing techniques.

Yoga adventure stories, songs, and Animal postures help us to learn how to build focus, strength, and flexibility while being silly. Partner poses and group meditations are demonstrated to encourage children to practice teamwork and trust with siblings, friends, and classmates. Yoga and meditation are some of the best tools we have available to address confidence-building, concentration, self-discipline and respect.

Today, the doors are opening – from public and private schools to community centers, Children’s Homes, Sunday Schools, to juvenile detention and rehab centers. And now, with concrete evidence that yoga and meditation taught in schools helps improve students’ performance on multi-levels, the need for yoga teachers will only increase. Whether you decide to incorporate a Yoga to warm up into your grade school class, the morning, or help little ones cool down before bed, these techniques can fit in almost anywhere.

It is therefore the role of Light Leaders to observe children in their “natural flow” with awareness of the teachable opportunity therein.

A Call For Teachers:

Golden Bridge is honored to present Light Leaders: A Teachers Training Program for Children and Youth. With yoga entering the mainstream, there has been a rapidly growing demand for solid, experienced and devoted Children’s Yoga Teachers. From preschool age to middle school and up, the demand outreaches the supply. Golden Bridge has been privileged to be on the front lines of this yogic youth explosion and our collective experience and success in teaching children’s yoga in a wide range of settings has inspired us to Pass It On! We have seen the effects this powerful yoga has on our students and we strongly believe it is our obligation to spread forth the teachings and techniques we know to help others create healing communities for young generations across the world.

The Light Leaders Program

The Light Leaders Teachers Training Program offers a rich, comprehensive and fun curriculum in 27 hours and culminates in a Children’s Teacher Certification. In this unique course we cover a wealth of information – from child development and nutrition to handling emotions and stress through specific meditations given by Yogi Bhajan to children. This is all in the spirit of play and fun. You will have direct experience with our ice breaker/brain games, yoga sets, improv exercises, and and yoga sets which especially help kick out any surplus negativity, fear, anxiety, depression and other undeserved pressures which trickle down onto their young minds from society. Our yoga is non-denominational and can be adapted to any venue.

The Trainers:

Crystal D'Angora

Combining 7 years as a Kundalini and Children’s Yoga and Pilates instructor and an eclectic background in theater, dance, Kundalini, Vinyasa and Hatha yogas, Crystal creates a holistic fusion of physical expression and discovery. Since receiving her Kundalini Yoga certification and a BA in Child Development, she continues to find new ways to create a safe and fun environment for students to discover, explore, and express their unique physical and mental gifts. She currently runs her own private studio and teaches children’s yoga at Golden Bridge, Amenecer Inner City Programs, at Youth Detention Centers with Yoga for Youth, and various locations in Los Angeles.

Blaire Baron Larsen

Blaire has been practicing yoga for 18 years so it was a natural progression for her to become a teacher of this sacred science, in addition to her other art-based disciplines. Since receiving her IKYTA teaching certificate from Golden Bridge, Blair has been actively teaching kundalini yoga all over Los Angeles. In addition to raising two children of her own, Blaire runs two youth programs: The Los Angeles Drama Club and the Hero Program. In both theatre-based social programs, she has seen great success in incorporating the science and principles of Kundalini Yoga. She runs her programs on the belief that children are wise and capable souls, able to do great things.

Tej Kaur Khalsa
